The OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Ref. 3592.50 is a particularly desirable neo-vintage variation of the legendary Moonwatch, combining the traditional Hesalite crystal of the classic Speedmaster Professional with a sapphire exhibition caseback that reveals its mechanical movement. This unusual combination has earned the reference the collector nickname “Hesalite Sandwich.”
Produced from the late 1980s through the 1990s, the 3592.50 retains the familiar 42mm asymmetrical stainless steel case, black dial, three-register chronograph layout and tachymeter bezel that define the classic Speedmaster Professional. The display caseback, however, gives this generation a distinctive character and separates it from the conventional solid-caseback Moonwatch.
At its heart is the OMEGA Calibre 863, a manually wound chronograph movement developed from the Calibre 861 architecture and specially finished for display through the sapphire caseback. Offering approximately 48 hours of power reserve, the Calibre 863 is an important part of the evolution that ultimately led to the later Calibre 1863 display-back Moonwatch.
